Sad Pics From A Singapore Arowarna Fish FarmQuick Links:

|
Every time I visit my my homeland of Singapore, I take the opportunity to go around to the "best" fish farms around town to meet up with old friends, renew / forge relationships with others in the industry and also to keep in touch with the latest trends and fads in the aquarium hobby. However, I've noticed an increasingly disturbing trend which is especially prevalant in Southeast Asia, that is there is great intrest in mutated & deformed fish. Apparently some deformed fish which resemble physical characteristics of local deities are kept as good luck "charms". Below are some pics that I secretly took at an Arowarna Farm. These pics were originally posted by myself on Simplydiscus.com in July 2005. Correct me if i'm wrong, but I think that these are supposed to be the highly desireable (in the U.S.A) Asian Arowarna. All individual fish in the pics are about 2 feet long.
1) No tail. List price $988.00 SGD. Listed as a "Rare & Exotic" aquarium fish.
2) List price $988.00 SGD. Comment under the aquarium : "Humpback brings longevity to your family"
3) Tail fin partially missing from the fish. List Price $388.00 SGD. .....*sigh*.. very sad.
4) Price : Not listed. Comment under aquarium : "Rare and Exotic"
5)List price $1,888.00 SGD. Comment under aquarium : "Special Bearded Arowarna. Brings Good Luck." PLUG I thank you all for your great interest in my articles and I hope to keep hearing from you guys, even if it is just dropping me a note to say hi. God Bless! |
